Friday Five: Five Open Tabs

I've already told you about the community I've found within the For the Love Launch Team. Part of the reason we've clicked so well is that a lot of us are naturally inclined to writing. All the feelings, all the thoughts, all the words. Some of these women link up every Friday for "Friday Five," in which a topic is predetermined and they share five thoughts. I am joining the fun for the first time this week!

The topic is "Five Open Tabs."

My little writer brain almost ran off with over-interpreting this and writing about five deep things that are always on my mind.

An Open Tab= something unfinished and left accessible to resume. An article. A video. A night of drinking. A thought or concept. Open yet for repeat enjoyment or torture, or maybe with the intention to return and avoided thus far.

I'm joining this link up for practice and for fun, so it's time to switch up my MO!!

Here are my five open tabs:

Because we're Winks. Because we love Ben Rector. Because we want to meet little miss Cambria Faith O'Hara while she's still a baby. Because we love spontaneity and adventure... Alizah and I are going to Nashville in two weeks. For less than 48 hours. I just booked the hotel this week through TripAdvisor! However, I am generally a Yelp girl.

My chicken and tattoo crew are responsible for this movement. After our weekend in Austin, with a group of amazing women brought together by one who could be considered a celeb in Christian writer world, Corie introduced this concept. To recognize the amazing people who are part of our world and the things they are doing. The ways they are faithful and creative in their work, friendships, homes. She wrote about it here. Then Krista took it one step further and started a blog series, accepting submissions from women everywhere. Kathy kicked it off today with beautiful words about her dear friend. It's an exercise in gratitude, really. We should practice looking at who is walking to our left and to our right and the ways they are living well often.

This is an old essay, but it has been recirculating as September is Suicide Prevention month. Anne Voskamp can be wordy sometimes, but these words are worth it. And you are worth it. A good read for anyone, to remind you to be gentle with yourself and others.

I've shared this already this week, but it's so important. I love Bessey's writing. I love her mind... she is okay, comfortable even, with questions and unknowns. Her new book due in November, Out of Sorts, addresses just that. Oh, and surprise, I'm launching another book!

I have to be honest, the 24 hours after I post something, I watch this thing like a hawk. My words are my babies. I put a lot of time and thought and heart into them. I edit a million times... typos, spacing, redundant words. I watch stats. Since I wrote last night, I've checked in here way too many times today. Now someday I need to get more professional - with a more thorough editing process, a layout and background better than a template, and better writing habits. But hey, it's fun just how it is for now, and I love what the writing process does for my own heart, thoughts, and intentions!

September 16

It's been a day. Really every day this week has been a day, but "it's been a week" just doesn't sound as dramatic and I've never heard a witty person say it. So, a day it has been.  I have been adequately warned about the pure joy that is joining the ranks of employed adults, by just about everyone ever. "The first year sucks," they said. "It's lonely and confusing," they told me. "Don't do it," I ignored.  In December, at the ripe old age of twenty three and nearly one half year, I finished grad school. I did wait until after graduation and the holidays to start looking for work, so I guess I held out for a few extra months, what with applications and interviews and the black hole named HR. In April I started work with Arlington Independent School District.  But it was fake work. It was the things I kind of actually knew how to do. Like providing speech and language therapy to kids.  Then I played at the beach int...

words and things

This weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to go the the final year of the Women of Faith conference.  The tour is entitled "Loved," but for me three things stuck out: beautifully strung together words (you should've seen me scramble to write down the perfectly constructed prose verbatim), anxiety, and dreams. To me, those things became the weekend's theme.  I of course got swept into stories and inspiration. I laughed a lot. I sang praises in a room of 20,000, united in lifting our voices the day after people were shot for professing the same faith to which we cling. I somehow walked away not sponsoring a child through  World Vision , despite the tear-inducing REAL stories. I will soon, surely.  But I really clung to those three aforementioned things, because they're what's relevant for me.  Here's the thing: I haven't ever felt like I have a "thing."  You know, like a hobby. Passion. Obsession. Ridiculous natural inclination or t...

Here I go....

Hello blogging world! I have mixed feelings about this... pressure to write well and be interesting. Curiosity as to if anyone even cares. Excitement to share the adventures to come. Fear of becoming "one of those  girls"-- you know, the girl who writes everything she thinks and everyone else just rolls their eyes. Called to share my faith and what I am learning... the list goes on. So I would LOVE feedback as I go. Please. I don't want wonder "umm, is anyone out there?" As of now, I am confused by everything... layout especially. Technology is not my thing. So expect that to evolve as time goes on... hopefully. As the header thing (which may soon be thrown out) says... I love pretty things, and I am striving to find beauty in my mess of a life, to see situations in a different way, to make a mosaic out of the madness. So that will hopefully be a recurring theme, but really, ya never know what will happen. Also, this will be my way to share my study abroad a...
