This week we're talking about traditions. I started typing on my phone at 11:56, so I doubt this will be finished on Friday. But I kept thinking about fall things I love so I simply had to make it happen.
1. Baylor Football
The truth is that I really only have figured football out in the past few years. But oh, to wear green and gold and get swept up in the excitement and now, finally, kind of appropriately independently cheer without waiting to watch others' reactions!!
2. Pumpkins and Peanuts
Just trust me on this one .
3. Warty Pumpkins
I didn't get my mom's love for fall decor growing up. And I sure liked my pumpkins orange, round, and smooth. I have learned to see the beauty in the quirky punkins!!
Anything warm and spicy. The signature candle from my favorite Waco boutique is the happiest fall smell. I also love diffusing "fall" oils like Thieves or a combination of Orange and Clove to both smell and keep myself well enough to enjoy this glorious season. Another fun thing to do is simmer orange peel, cinnamon, cranberry, rosemary, etc on the stove to make your home feel cozy!
5. Thanksgiving Hikes
I saved my favorite for last, because it says "fall tradition" the very best. Every Thanksgiving after the meal (which starts at 2:00, as Thanksgiving meals should), we leave the dishes for an hour or so, change clothes, and take a hike in the fields behind our house. We break out the gloves and ear muffs and wear layers galore. Every single year it's the same - the dogs run free - Dad holds the barbed wire fences down for us to step over - Lizah and Christian run ahead and hide somewhere - mom finds red berries to take home and add to her dried corn and haystack and warty pumpkins. I kind of love that we get out of the house and explore when everyone else in the world is posted up on the couch.

Beautiful traditions, Annaleise! I have heard about pumpkins and peanuts but, I haven't tried it yet. This may be the year! Thanks for linking up! #FridayFive
ReplyDeleteI love that last tradition, too. What a great way to just be together and instill that thankfulness!
ReplyDeleteFriday(ish). Oh, I adore you, Annaliese! So glad you're linking up with us for #FridayFive :) Now you've inspired me to put orange and clove EOs in my diffuser.
